One of Rotary’s goals is to promote literacy worldwide. One way that our club has tackled this concern is through our local literacy project.
In order to promote literacy at local elementary schools this year, our club presented students with a copy of the book “Each Kindness.” This book has a powerful anti-bullying message and demonstrates how small acts of kindness can change the world. As part of the distribution of the book, we spent time reading it to the Students and asking questions about the importance message that the book conveys.
This is a project that touches the hearts and lives of many. The students are very appreciative. They are excited to learn that they can take the book home with them. We aren’t donating them to the school; the books are theirs to keep as a gift from our club to help them now and promote a lifelong love of learning.
In the video below, second grade students at Williford Elementary School show their appreciation for receiving their books.
In past years, our club donated dictionaries to the local elementary schools. Visit the Nash-Rocky Mount Public School to learn about that past project.
